Submit Your Comments on Bayou La Batre Sewage Permit

The Bayou La Batre sewer plant permit is being reissued by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). The public can comment on this permit until Friday 11/10. http://adem.alabama.gov/newsEvents/notices/oct17/10npdes-bayou.htm

Mobile Baykeeper is writing comments centered around one main idea; the permit needs to be protective of oyster farming!

The box labeled "13" shows the small area with lower water quality standards than the rest of Portersville Bay.

  • We want to see ADEM work with state agencies and scientists to incorporate the best available science.
    • Currently there is a dye study to determine if the Bayou La Batre outfall should be moved. ADEM should wait for the study to be released before moving forward.
  • We find it unacceptable that a small area around the sewage outfall has lower standards than the rest of Portersville Bay.
  • We are requesting a public hearing so those affected can make their opinion known.

We encourage you to submit your own comments about the permit to ADEM.You can send your comments to:
