Volunteers - we need you! More than 150 volunteers are needed on June 2 and June 3 to help us with a variety of different tasks to ensure the race runs as smoothly as possible. There will be two volunteer meetings to go over in depth each volunteer task for the race: 

1) Tuesday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m. at the Mobile Baykeeper office. Food and drinks will be provided. 

2) Tuesday, May 9 in Fairhope. Location and time TBD. 

Volunteer tasks include: 

June 2, 2017 (The day before the race)

Setting up the Race Course: setting up fencing and barricades, hanging banners and signs, marking the race course, etc. We will arrive to the race site around 10 a.m. on June 2 and stay the entire day until the race course is set up. Volunteers may come and go at anytime throughout the day. Meals, snacks, and beverages will be provided! 

June 3, 2017 (Race Day)

Body Marking: Volunteers will mark each racer in the appropriate spots on their body with their respective racer number before the race begins. 

Chip Timing: Volunteers will ensure each racer receives the appropriate chips so their time will be recorded correctly. 

Lifeguards: Volunteers who are certified lifeguards will be stationed throughout the swim course to ensure the utmost safety of all racers as they complete the open water swim. Lifeguards with canoes and kayaks of their own are an added plus! 


Directing Racer Traffic: Volunteers will be stationed at different legs of the race to ensure racers are following the correct route of the race course and keeping drivers off of the course.

Post-Race Party and Cleanup After the Event: Volunteers working the post-race party can help hand out finisher medals, serve food and drinks, pour beer, and help with cleanup after the race.
