Mobile Baykeeper is proud to present an evening with local artist Frank Ledbetter. Frank is known for his metal masterpieces, ranging from large public works along the Gulf Coast to smaller wall pieces and functional art frequently found in local homes. Frank is deeply connected to the Gulf Coast, and is passionate about Mobile Baykeeper's mission to preserve and protect. Come explore Frank's craftsmanship over hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
In celebration of the longest snapper season in recent years, this event will feature one of Frank's unique sculptures - a snapper, which will also be the first in a series of pieces to be auctioned off, benefitting Baykeeper. This fish is a local favorite and represents the beginning of a new partnership that will highlight Mobile Bay and its watershed's immense natural resources! A portion of proceeds of this event will benefit Mobile Baykeeper’s efforts for clean water, clean air, and healthy communities.
Frank Ledbetter is a Mobile native who made his beginnings with metal through his metal fabrication company, Ledco. After losing his son in 2001, Frank decided to take a step back from Ledco and instead put his energy into working with metal scraps. This "tinkering" evolved into his wonderfully unique craftsmanship and Frank "admits that art saved his life." By incorporating his son into each of his pieces of art, Frank has been able to move through his grief and carry his memory with him. In addition to his family, Frank draws inspiration from coastal Alabama, something you might notice when you explore his works on the 4th.
