Mobile Baykeeper selected as recipient of Whole Foods 5% Day on August 31
(Mobile, Ala.) – Mobile Baykeeper has been selected as a recipient of the Whole Foods Market 5% Day Community Giving Program on Thursday, August 31. During store hours between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., 5% of the store’s net proceeds will be donated to support Mobile Baykeeper’s mission to protect the Mobile Bay Watershed and our coastal communities.
Mobile Baykeeper is one of only four non-profit organizations chosen to participate in the program throughout the year. “We are grateful to have companies like Whole Foods in the area who encourage healthy lifestyles and are dedicated to making a difference in our community,” said Casi (kc) Callaway, Mobile Baykeeper Executive Director & Baykeeper. “At Mobile Baykeeper, we value Whole Foods’ commitment to healthy kids and healthy families by ensuring our waterways in Coastal Alabama are safe to enjoy for swimming, fishing, and boating. Proceeds from the 5% day will support our efforts to continue working for clean water, clean air, and healthy communities.”
Sheryl Williams, Store Team Leader for Whole Foods Market Mobile, believes the 5% day program is a great way to partner with local organizations who embody similar values as Whole Foods. “We were excited to select Mobile Baykeeper on this 5% day because of their commitment to a healthy environment,” she said. “Supporting the protection of our waterways benefits healthy kids and families by keeping our rivers and creeks clean, which protects our seafood and our way of life. Mobile Baykeeper is a great fit for this program.”
Baykeeper staff members will be stationed at a table inside the store throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to educate Whole Foods customers on their mission and provide information about current environmental issues, membership and volunteer opportunities, upcoming events, and other ways to get more involved.
