Meet the Interns: The Communications Crew


This summer, we've had a total of 15 interns on the Mobile Baykeeper team (yes, 15!). Some of them have already come and gone, but each has been an incredible asset to our staff. Jacob and Sydnie have served as our communications intern duo for the summer. Read more about them below.


Jacob Hartley

Hometown: Fairhope, Alabama

Education: Sophomore at L’Institut d’études politiques de Paris - Politics and Government Major with a focus in International Relations

Hobbies: Traveling, cooking, reading & composition, biking, attending theatre, art, and opera productions. 

Nicknames: Jakey, Jakey Man, Jake, Jacques, Yacob, or simply Hartley.

Favorite Place You’ve Ever Visited: Avignon, France (or just the Provence region in general) and Poland, particularly Warsaw. 

Favorite Movies: Casablanca and The Grand Budapest Hotel 

Favorite Downtown Mobile Restaurant: Noble South 

Three Words to Describe Yourself: Proactive, Forward-thinking, Empathetic  

Why You Wanted to Intern at Mobile Baykeeper: The mission of Baykeeper combined with its reputation for safeguarding the place we call home attracted me to seek an internship here. I believe in doing civically engaging activities, and I feel Baykeeper does a very fine job of engaging with our communities, business, and decision makers. 



Sydnie Lee

Hometown: Hurley, Mississippi

Education: Senior at Spring Hill College - Communications Major with a focus in PR & Advertising

Hobbies: Traveling, going to the beach, hiking, photography, watching Harry Potter movie marathons

Favorite Place You've Ever Visited: Amsterdam, Netherlands

Favorite Movie: Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Three Words to Describe Yourself: Creative, Attentive, Witty

Why You Wanted to Intern at Mobile Baykeeper: I wanted an internship that would allow me to develop myself as a professional and that had a mission that I believed in. Through Mobile Baykeeper, I can engage with the Mobile community while preserving it as well.
