So let’s start with the basics: what is AmeriCorps? AmeriCorps is a government-funded network of national service programs, each working to improve lives and foster civic engagement in the United States. Members commit their time to address critical community needs like increasing academic achievement, fighting poverty, preparing for disasters, and in our case, promoting environmental stewardship and education.
The Mobile Baykeeper AmeriCorps Patrol team focuses on solving local pollution problems to improve water quality and reduce impacts from stormwater, sewer, and industrial pollution. We work throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties. Some of our core activities include inspecting constructions sites, investigating citizen concerns, collecting water quality samples, documenting pollution, researching upcoming projects, and removing litter.
Now that you know a little more about the program, let us introduce ourselves!
Hey, I’m Sarah Asher and I am from Fairhope, Alabama. I graduated from Auburn University in 2017 with a B.S. in Geology. I really enjoy being outside and spending time on the creeks and bays in lower Alabama. I plan to pursue a career in Geographic Information Science (GIS) and hydrogeology in the future thanks to the experience I have gained here with the Patrol team!
Hey everyone, I’m Ellie Mallon and I am from Evergreen, Colorado. When I’m not hanging out with my dog Archer, you can catch me exploring the beautiful delta or finding a new place to hike.
