Goodbye to Two Baykeeper Rock Stars

by Casi Callaway

Change is inevitable, change will always happen, but you have to apply direction to change, and that's when it's progress. - Doug Baldwin

Today, I have to announce that we are losing two of our best and brightest. Justine Herlihy, Development Director, and Laura Stone, Program and Grants Coordinator, have accepted new positions at other organizations. While the loss is hard for Mobile Baykeeper, these smart, incredible women are stretching into new challenges as they continue to advocate passionately for their personal missions.

Justine joined the Mobile Baykeeper team in August of 2015. She took over a strong program and moved Mobile Baykeeper into a nearly million-dollar organization. She has built and forged relationships for Mobile Baykeeper that will last well into the future. We will miss her can-do-it-all attitude and know she will take her passion for our beloved City of Mobile to the United Way of Southwest Alabama. She will be the Vice President of Resource Development and charged with maintaining and growing their nearly 5-million-dollar budget to do great work in health, education, financial stability, and equal access of life’s essentials.

Laura Stone joined Mobile Baykeeper in February of 2016 as the Administrator, but quickly took on any task we could give her to make her an invaluable asset to our team. Laura did financial management and membership development before beginning to write grants and move where she always belonged into Programs. As the Programs and Grants Coordinator, Laura helped bring in more than $500,000 in grants for Mobile Baykeeper in 2018 alone! Laura’s work on the Ship Channel, the Mobile River Bridge, and more have made significant strides toward securing responsible growth for the Mobile Bay Watershed. Laura is moving to Washington, DC to become the Grants Manager for the National Marine Sanctuaries Foundation.

Here you will find three job opportunities: Development Director, Program Coordinator, and Administrator – a new role we are excited to fill. If you’re ready to put your passion to work, apply today.
