“The beginning is the most important part of the work.” - Plato
I’ve been lucky enough to work with Mobile Baykeeper for the past two years, which began my involvement in local environmental work and allowed my progression and long-standing learning for life.
Our work here at Mobile Baykeeper is not just important, it’s necessary.
Part of me will always be indebted to Mobile Baykeeper for birthing a curiosity for my local natural resources - the very source of our picturesque living on the Gulf Coast. The rivers, creeks, bays, and inlets make up the many miles we here at Baykeeper speak up for, protect, and diligently work to keep safe for our community and future generations. The amount of pride I have for my hometown has sky-rocketed since stepping into this calling of being a leader for something bigger than myself.
My experience with Mobile Baykeeper was also an instant connection and made work feel like a family, and that’s so rare. This organization has BIG heart, and I know that my replacement will not only be part of the passion and mission but a part of the family in no time. They will see and feel the deep importance of our Mobile Bay Watershed and how they can inject that same passion into our local communities.
I remember in my interview with Casi and Cade a couple of years ago, I told them what I was looking for in this job: growth. In the first 15 days of my on-boarding, I had a job title change from Administration and Membership to Membership and Volunteers and gained two amazing AmeriCorps Members in the process. I am so fortunate to have not only grown in my own career as a leader, but to have instilled leadership qualities into our AmeriCorps Members. As a Site Supervisor and mentor for two programmatic years and the beginning of our third, I will cherish every connection, forever.
With my new beginning, I am happily charting forward to Spring Hill College in the position of Assistant Director of Annual Giving. I am so thankful for the opportunity and beyond grateful for the “Baykeeper” experience. My life has been enriched here like our Delta and I look forward to the enrichment Spring Hill College will play in the next chapter of my life.
As I raise my metaphorical glass, CHEERS to new beginnings, to my Baykeeper family (past and present), and to the Bay which brought us together and is setting my course to new charted waters.
