I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to protecting the environment and our natural resources when I was seven years old… Then I found Mobile Baykeeper and I knew it was the organization I wanted to start my professional career with.
One of my first tasks at Mobile Baykeeper was to write a blog about myself and what brought me to the organization. It was titled “My Circle of Life”. I described how growing up in Scottsdale, AZ made me curious and in awe of water, how that awe drove my studies in undergrad and graduate school, and how that knowledge turned into passion, which lead me straight to Mobile Baykeeper.
Today, I have to announce that we are losing two of our best and brightest. Justine Herlihy, Development Director, and Laura Stone, Program and Grants Coordinator, have accepted new positions at other organizations. While the loss is hard for Mobile Baykeeper, these smart, incredible women are stretching into new challenges as they continue to advocate passionately for their personal missions.
A letter from Executive Director & Baykeeper Casi (kc) Callaway reflecting on her 20 years protecting the Mobile Bay Watershed as we celebrate her 20th Anniversary this month.
The Alabama RESTORE Council recently selected more than $300 million in BP Projects for Coastal Alabama. While we're glad to see many of the projects that were selected, we also feel there was a lot of money that could have been used elsewhere.
We are looking to hire a dedicated and ambitious, self-starter who is innovative in helping us run the business side of Mobile Baykeeper. This is a full-time, 40+ hour/week position. Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends.
Mobile Baykeeper has been the environmental watchdog, informed voice of reason, and a collaborator for solutions for all issues impacting the Mobile Bay Watershed and our coastal communities for 20 years. We are excited to have Scott Posey on board to forward our mission and our work for Clean Water, Clean Air, and Healthy Communities.
Every new corner I take leads to a magical experience in this wonderful place we call home in Coastal Alabama. As an outsider, it’s incredible, and as someone who is planning on sticking around for a while, I want to help protect what has come to be my favorite part of this area — America’s Amazon!
Our members know that the Coastal Alabama’s waterways are integral to our economic vitality, our community strength and our success. If you think environmental protection laws need to be protected, enhanced and/or strengthened, please consider calling our elected officials and decision-makers.
"I wish everyone could have the opportunity to see our home from these different perspectives, and to step out of their comfort zone and witness how different this place is from anywhere else in the world."
"What we have realized is that the more you know about our work, the more connected you are, and the more we can accomplish because we’re working together."
I am falling in love with this city and its people. We have been so welcomed and my hopes of settling someplace that would give me the opportunity to be a voice and get heavily involved in the community are exceeding my expectations.
My childhood memories are filled with experiences of water – experiences on Mobile Bay. My adult life is filled with even more of those experiences and they are forever growing. I never miss an opportunity to embrace our wonderful bay and all of its surrounding waterways.
